Its generous nature makes it a gourmet treat. It is a popular ingredient in various fresh recipes, to which it brings an extra touch of pleasure.
If you have recently purchased some, it may be necessary to check certain information. A national recall is underway to stop the sale and use of avocados that present health risks.
Which avocados are affected by this recall?
The Rappel Conso website has published a description sheet containing all the information available about the product targeted by this procedure. These are avocados Hass distributed nationwide by the company PRIMOUEST IMPEX. The product was on sale from 31/03/2025 to 05/04/2025.
All customers of Primouest Impex are affected by this recall. This includes large and medium-sized stores, wholesalers, commercial and collective catering establishments, caterers and resellers at fairground markets.
The product comes in the form of a cardboard package of 4 kg containing Hass avocados, size 20, from Peru CAT 1. The batch in question can be identified by the code 1069/1 TRACE 031.011.01.01.002 and the product description. As this is fresh fruit, no use-by date has been set for this batch of avocados.
What are the risks?
Tests carried out on these avocados show that the permitted limits for a contaminant that can be harmful to human health have been exceeded. This contaminant is cadmium, which is a heavy metal to which prolonged exposure can have serious consequences.
One-off consumption does not pose an immediate danger. However, absorbing regularly excessive quantities of heavy metals can cause damage to the kidneys, brittle bones, effects on the respiratory system and reproductive disorders. It can also increase the risk of developing certain cancers.
Affected consumers can make a request for reimbursement at the point of sale by bringing the product in question. This procedure will end on Friday, April 25, 2025.
