With a little skill it is possible to give different uses to a cheap and easy-to-use accessory. A manufacturer creates a piece of furniture or object with the intention of covering a use or need of their customers, but this does not mean that we then have to strictly follow this purpose after taking it home.
It’s something we’ve seen on other occasions with this transformation of a shelf into a table or with this other one where it’s possible to create a pantry hidden in a corner of the kitchen. The trick we’re bringing you today is along the same lines and is about using a basic, inexpensive piece of furniture for a function completely different from the one it was intended for.
The spice rack that became a towel rack
We saw it on the maidecorate TikTok account where the Bekväm spice rack from IKEA is used, a small solid wood shelf with a simple and versatile design that allows it to be used in surprising ways in different rooms of the home beyond holding salt and pepper shakers.
Specifically, with a little skill it is possible to use it as a towel rack for the bathroom, allowing for better organization of towels and having a small shelf available to place objects such as an air freshener, shampoo bottles, or to leave the mobile phone or toilet paper roll.
All you need for the conversion are a few screws suitable for the wall where it is to be installed (not included in the package), and in a few minutes, it is transformed into a practical towel rack. Simply fix the spice rack to the wall at the desired height, upside down from its original design.
The chosen height can be, for example, about 90 centimeters from the floor if it is for hand towels or 120 centimeters if larger towels are to be hung.
It is also possible to install it on the inside of a door or on the side of a piece of furniture if space is very limited, thus achieving more storage surface.
It can also be used in the kitchen to hang up cloths, tea towels and similar items, or as an auxiliary piece of furniture in the entrance hall to leave keys on, even in the bedroom or inside a wardrobe to hang up handkerchiefs, belts, ties, etc.
Of course, as it is a piece of wooden furniture, if the main use we are going to give it is to hold wet towels, it is advisable to protect the wood from moisture to prevent deterioration with some varnish, sealant or it is even possible to paint it a color that matches the rest of the decoration.
